Heron AirBridge Lands in Japan: Multi-Aircraft BVLOS Demonstration Marks a New Phase in Drone Operations
Heron AirBridge successfully conducted its pilot flights and live demonstration in Japan, validating the operational performance of the AirBridge platform in supporting complex, multi-aircraft Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) missions. The demonstration was carried out in collaboration with partners KYC and iROBOTICS, and attended by industrial customers.
Held at Drone Field Kawachi, Ibaraki, the pilot flights, combining Heron’s software with iROBOTICS’s hardware solution and technical expertise, marked an important step in introducing integrated, complex, and multi-drone BVLOS capabilities to the Japanese Airspace.
Shortly before and after the demonstration, two significant earthquakes (Richter magnitude 6+) occurred off the coasts of northern Honshu and southern Hokkaido. The proximity of these seismic events served as a timely reminder of the critical role that advanced drone technologies can play in disaster response and emergency operations.

Demonstrating the Future of Autonomous BVLOS Operations
The AirBridge platform is specifically targeted at building solutions incrementally, allowing drone operators to gradually scale up to fully supported BVLOS multi-drone operations. We achieve this by integrating and providing operators with the tools to effectively become their own “Air Traffic Control (ATC)”.
The live demonstrations successfully validated AirBridge’s capabilities to enable drone operators to:
- Understand the Airspace: Gain comprehensive awareness of the shared airspace context.
- Plan Collaborative Missions: Plan missions in the context of other drone operations, ensuring deconfliction and safety.
- Direct Autonomous Fleets: Command increasingly autonomous drones that require minimal pilot manual control, focusing the operator on mission management, not stick time

Conclusion: Expanding Capabilities & Partnering for Innovation
This milestone also officially marks the kickoff of our MOU activities with KYC and iROBOTICS, focused on co-developing and integrating cutting-edge drone solutions for both the Japanese and overseas markets.
Looking ahead, leveraging the space and facilities available at Drone Field Kawachi, we plan to develop and demonstrate more complex capabilities throughout 2026 within this strategic partnership. To ensure our solutions directly address market needs, we will be actively engaging customers to join us as “design partners” in this iterative development process.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to our dedicated teams for making this demo a resounding success!
